Child Membership
MAS accepts persons under 18 years of age as members under our family membership scheme and requires the adult family members to attend all functions with the child.
Public Event Volunteers Policy
As part of the MAS Public Outreach Program, some Society members will volunteer to attend functions organised by or for schools. Many children also attend our public observing nights.
All members volunteering at these public events on behalf of MAS must have a ‘Working with Children Check’ (WWCC) clearance .
Once issued with your letter of registration, stating your WWCC number and date of birth, it must be copied to the Membership Officer, and will be kept in our membership records. The registration is valid for 5 years from date of registration.
To obtain your online clearance go to the Working With Children Check website. You then go to a NSW Service Centre with your driver’s licence to confirm identity.
If you have any comments or queries about this policy or any other issues with MAS please do not hesitate to contact any committee member – our contact details are on the website.
What is Working With Children Check?
WWCC is a NSW State Government body which aims to provide a safe environment for children by providing clearance for individuals to work with children.
A registration with WWCC is a mandatory requirement for people who work or volunteer in child-related work. It involves a national criminal history check and a review of findings of workplace misconduct.
The result of a Working With Children Check is either a clearance to work with children for five years, or a bar against working with children.
Cleared applicants are subject to ongoing monitoring and relevant new records may lead to the clearance being revoked.
The Working With Children Check registration is fully portable so it can be used for any paid or unpaid child-related work in NSW for as long as the worker remains cleared.
How do I Register?
Just four simple steps:
1. Register online.
2. Go to a Service NSW Centre to confirm your identity.
3. Receive your WWCC notification by e-mail.
4. Send a copy of the registration acceptance notification, with your WWC number, to membership@macastro.org.au
